Development Mentoring Service: About

Advantages

By attending the monthly site meetings that the member of staff is working on, the mentor will be able to pick up potential issues that someone less experienced may miss.  These issues would then be picked up with the mentee in a weekly online session with them.  The wider significance would be explained, picking up any side issues and discussing approaches to finding solutions.  The weekly session would also allow the mentee to raise any questions or concerns and seek support with those.

All the work on the scheme would continue to be carried out by your member of staff, so you have the comfort of knowing that work is being carried out within your existing internal procedures by someone who is a permanent member of staff (rather than finding mistakes in work done by a temporary staff member who’s no longer working for your organisation).

This is a ‘grow your own’ initiative.  If you’ve taken on internal staff from other departments, or you’ve spent money on a more formal development training programme, then this is a natural next step.  You can bring in quality support for your less experienced staff without diverting the valuable time of your more senior staff.  For a relatively small cost, you gain confidence that your development projects are in safe hands, whilst your team learns and builds capacity for the future.

Using this service helps avoid your senior staff getting multiple contacts for assistance on small matters that divert their attention from their wider role within the department.

From Our Clients

Fiona worked closely with three members of staff ranging from a Development Officer doing his first scheme to an experienced manager coming back after 12 months on maternity leave.  Fiona mentored each of these people to build up / refresh their knowledge and confidence, while allowing their line manager to concentrate on managing and leading the team rather than training the team.  All three members of staff appreciated the support shown by Fiona and felt that Abri was taking their personal development seriously, building up trust and loyalty to the company.

From the moment I was introduced to Fiona I knew that working alongside her was going to be so beneficial for me. Her wealth of knowledge and experience within the industry has helped me to work through the tail end stages of delivering a large housing development consisting of a block of flats housing 75 units successfully.

Personally, I have found Fiona’s support invaluable for my own personal growth as a Project Manager within Development. I am still considered a relative newbie so being able to have Fiona’s support, guidance and knowledge has really helped to build my confidence within my own capabilities.

Fiona was hired to offer me support, advice, and expertise in the lead up to the Phase 1 handovers of a 74-unit scheme in Bristol. It is a business priority to ensure the quality and customer journey is of a high standard, Fiona was instrumental in putting in place strategies with the aim of bringing a great customer experience. Fiona attended monthly progress meetings and weekly one to one sessions, in which her contribution was highly valued by internal and external teams. There is no doubt in my mind that working with Fiona has helped my professional development, it was highly valuable having support on some of the more contentious issues, and a strong foundation has been laid at an early stage of the project. As a newly appointed Project Manager I cannot recommend having Fiona’s support as a consultant highly enough.
